How to Use Mobile Payment with M-Pesa on Vodacom, Tigo Pesa, and Airtel Money

Learn how to make payments using M-Pesa on Vodacom, Tigo Pesa, and Airtel Money for customers of other networks like Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money/Zantel, and Halotel – Halopesa. "Lipa kwa M-Pesa" is Vodacom's merchant payment solution introduced in November 2016 to digitalize payments in the Tanzanian retail ecosystem. This facilitates seamless payment collection for merchants and retailers while allowing customers to avoid the risks associated with carrying cash.

In March 2017, Vodacom improved the service by launching the M-Pesa App, which supports QR-code payments. QR codes simplify the payment process by eliminating the need to manually enter till numbers at retail touchpoints. How to Pay Merchants with M-Pesa Lipa Number:

For Vodacom Customers:

-Using USSD: Dial *150*00#

  1. Select "Pay by phone."

  2. Enter Lipa number.

  3. Input the amount in Tanzanian Shillings.

  4. Enter M-Pesa pin.

  5. Confirm the transaction via SMS.

Using M-Pesa App:

  1. Launch the M-Pesa App.

  2. Select "Pay by phone."

  3. Enter Lipa number.

  4. Input the amount in Tanzanian Shillings.

  5. Enter M-Pesa pin.

  6. Confirm the transaction via SMS.

For Tigo Pesa Customers:

1. Launch M-Pesa app and tap on the QR icon top right.

2. Scan the QR code on the table talker/sticker.

3. Enter the amount followed by the pin to complete the transaction.

For Halotel Customers:

Dial *150*00#

  1. Select "Send money."

  2. Choose "To other networks."

  3. Select "M-Pesa."

  4. Enter Lipa number (seven digits).

  5. Input the amount in Tanzanian Shillings and pin.

  6. Confirm the transaction via SMS.

For Zantel Customers:

Dial *150*88#

  1. Select "Send money."

  2. Choose "To other networks."

  3. Select "M-Pesa."

  4. Enter Lipa number (seven digits).

  5. Input the amount in Tanzanian Shillings and pin.

  6. Confirm the transaction via SMS.

For Airtel Customers:

Dial *150*60#

  1. Select "Send money."

  2. Choose "To other networks."

  3. Select "M-Pesa."

Paying from Bank Accounts:

1. Open your bank's financial service menu.

2. Select "Payments."

3. Choose "Pay with."

4. Select "Lipa kwa M-Pesa."

5. Enter Lipa number (seven digits).

6. Input the amount in Tanzanian Shillings followed by your bank Pin.

7. Confirm the transaction via SMS.
