Are you an experienced expert in economics or finance with a passion for monetary policy and forecasting? The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is currently seeking a Resident Advisor to join its Monetary and Capital Markets Department (MCM) in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.


In this role, you'll be stationed at AFE (AFRITAC EAST) to collaborate with recipient countries, enhancing their economic analysis and forecasting capabilities at central banks to support the monetary policy decision-making process. Your focus will include developing operational forecasting toolkits, creating quarterly projections models, and fostering coordination between forecasting teams and monetary policy committees.


This is a unique one-year contractual position, with the potential for renewal for up to two years based on budget availability and performance. As the Resident Advisor, you will be based in Dar es Salaam, with regional travel as required by the approved work plan and authorities' requests, after consultation with MCM.


Your responsibilities will involve coordinating training sessions on Forecasting and Policy Analysis System (FPAS), aiding countries in integrating forward-looking model-based analysis into central bank MPC cycles, and overseeing the hiring of short-term experts. Additionally, you'll organize workshops and seminars, arrange attachments for capacity building, and contribute to the AFE corporate work, including annual reports and social media outreach.


To be the ideal candidate, you should have a post-graduate degree in Economics or Finance, along with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in monetary policy, modeling, forecasting, and analysis operations. Experience in monetary policy decision-making is highly desirable, and an excellent command of English (oral and written) is a must.
