Organizational Setting and Work Relationships:


The Driver at the UNHCR Office is typically supervised by the Administrative Officer/Associate/Assistant or another designated staff member, as required by the scale of the operation. Apart from driving responsibilities, the incumbent is responsible for maintaining and ensuring the upkeep of assigned UNHCR vehicles, following technical guidance and specifications provided by the organization. Strict adherence to instructions and security guidance from the supervisor is essential. While the primary role is driving, the Driver may be called upon to perform minor maintenance and repairs on UNHCR vehicles.


The Driver has regular interactions with staff within the UNHCR Office and external parties, including partners and government authorities, involving limited information exchange.


All UNHCR staff members are expected to fulfill their duties as outlined in their job description, within their delegated authorities and in accordance with UNHCR's regulatory framework. This includes compliance with the UN Charter, UN Staff Regulations and Rules, UNHCR Policies and Administrative Instructions, and relevant accountability frameworks. Staff members are also required to discharge their responsibilities in alignment with UNHCR's core values of professionalism, integrity, and respect for diversity.


Duties:


  • - Drive UNHCR vehicles for the authorized transport of passengers, delivery and collection of documents, and other items.
  • - Assist official personnel at airports or other locations, facilitating immigration and customs formalities as required.
  • - Perform daily maintenance of assigned vehicles, checking oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., ensuring vehicles meet established security standards.
  • - Undertake minor repairs, arrange for other repairs, and maintain cleanliness of assigned vehicles.
  • - Follow rules and regulations in case of an accident.
  • - Log official trips, daily mileage, gas consumption, oil changes, greasing, etc.
  • - Strictly follow instructions and security guidance provided by the supervisor and security focal point.
  • - Ensure valid documentation for passengers, items, or cargo in the vehicle.
  • - Support risk identification and management, seizing opportunities impacting objectives in the area of responsibility.
  • - Make risk-based decisions in the functional area of work.
  • - Report risks, issues, and concerns to a supervisor or relevant functional colleague(s).


Minimum Qualifications:


Years of Experience / Degree Level:

  • For G2D – 2 years of relevant experience with completion of Primary Education or High School Diploma or higher.

Certificates and/or Licenses:

  • Driving License; (Certificates and Licenses marked with an asterisk* are essential)


Relevant Job Experience:

  • Essential: Driving license, knowledge of driving rules and regulations.
  • Desirable: Not specified.


Functional Skills:

  • DV-Driving Rules and Regulations, DV – Basic Vehicle Mechanical Skills; (Functional Skills marked with an asterisk* are essential)


Language Requirements:

  • For International Professional and Field Service jobs: Knowledge of English and UN working language of the duty station if not English.
  • For National Professional jobs: Knowledge of English and UN working language of the duty station if not English and local language.
  • For General Service jobs: Knowledge of English and/or UN working language of the duty station if not English.


Desired Candidate Profile:

  • Working experience of more than 5 years with UN Agencies.
  • Working experience of more than 5 years with Implementing partners in Refugee operations.
  • Class C Driving license.
  • NIT Driving certificate.
  • Written test will be eliminatory.
  • Required languages (expected Overall ability is at least B2 level):
